• Keeping families together to help kids heal faster and cope better
  • Child’s Bedside Volunteers

Hospital Support ProgramsPlease note: UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital has put a temporary hold on new volunteer applications until February 4, 2018.

If you are interested in becoming a Child’s Bedside volunteer, we encourage you to reach out to Sarah Reichanadter, house manager, for updates.

As a Child’s Bedside Program volunteer, you will truly be supporting parents and children in the hospital. Every Child’s Bedside volunteer is screened and receives specialized training. Once their training is complete, volunteers visit families in eleven major units at the hospital.

Our program currently runs seven days a week: Monday through Friday in the afternoon and Saturday and Sunday mornings.  Volunteers work on the day that best fits their schedule. As a volunteer, you will distribute beverages and treats to parents who remain next to their child’s bedside at the hospital and engage in friendly conversation with families who want to talk.  You’ll find that many families look forward to your visit!

Our goal is to provide you with full training that offers the knowledge, skills, and policies you will need during your shift. This is a one-year commitment. We understand that the training process is thorough and time-consuming; however, the smiles and appreciation from the parents you help will make the initial process seem like a distant memory.

All volunteer candidates must be 18 years or older and complete the following orientations prior to placement:

Step 1: Please contact Sarah Reichanadter, house manager, at 415.502.9867.

Step 2:  You will be contacted to arrange an interview.
